Micah Joseph Somers was born ten weeks prematurely on November 24, 1981. He beat the odds, survived that early start to life and battled numerous chronic illnesses and issues for the next 40 years before passing away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.

He had a heart of gold and grew up being a champion of the underdog, often seen lending any help he could to others with disabilities while he was in school. Micah found refuge in books and was an avid reader from a very young age. At the age of 20, he survived a second brush with death when he survived pancreatitis and went on to start a short career in over-the-road trucking. He loved traveling the country but his physical condition deteriorated and he was soon diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Over the last 10 years, this condition took its toll and limited his movements considerably. Micah loved history, especially the Civil War era in which he participated with reenactors for many years. He grew up around steam traction engines and as a youngster learned to operate the family steam engines, another pastime he enjoyed while he could. Country music tunes were his favorite. Family connections were very important to Micah and he enjoyed genealogy and the family reunions he attended.

Micah is survived by his parents, Joe and Dawn Somers, his brothers: Trenton Somers and Nicholas (Brittany) Somers; nieces and nephews: Trey Somers, Cheyenne, Cole and Cayden Somers as well as his aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Howard and Marguerite Somers, and Harm and Berniece Hayenga.

Visitation will be at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 5, 2022, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 6, at 11:00 AM at the Elim Reformed Church in Kings IL. Memorials can be made to Elim Reformed Church or Serenity Hospice and Home.
