Rochelle

Michael Bernard Golt, 75, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026 at Aperion Care in DeKalb, Illinois. Mike was born on April 15, 1951 to Michael F. and Theogene (Nerdahl) Golt in Winona, Minnesota. In 1965 the Golt family moved from Winona to Rochelle. It was then while living across from The Rochelle Country Club he developed his great love for golf.

Mike, known as 'Goater' to everyone, enjoyed golfing, playing poker, pool, and fishing up in Wisconsin. He was a lifelong Vikings fan and had made several road trips to Minneapolis with Tom and his nephew. He once confided to his sister that while HAVING to watch the Bears games with his friends, he pretended to be a Bears fan just so he could lament "how terrible they were” with them.. Goater was a trickster and especially loved the time he spent with friends.

On October 1, 1996, he married the love of his life Dorie Johnson on the beaches of Jamica. They were happily married for 27 years. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2024.

In addition to his wife, Dorie, Mike his predeceased by his parents, Michael and Theogene. He is survived by his three siblings: Charlie (Marie} Golt of Esmond, Julie (Bruce) Yarno of Kankakee, IL and Tom (Dawn) Golt of Rochelle, and two brothers-in-law: Doug (Kelly) Johnson and Kyle Johnson both of Rochelle. In addition, he is survived by seven nieces and nephews: Megan Backer, Derek and Michael Yarno, Emily Piech, Garrett Golt, Sam Johnson, and Allyson Crofton. He is also survived by 'A whole 'nother bunch' of Minnesota born cousins.
