Mildred B. Lane, 94, of Rochelle, Illinois, died Friday, March 15, in Bellevue, Washington. She grew up and lived most of her life in Illinois and moved to Bellevue two years ago to be near her daughter and family where she especially enjoyed getting to know her two great-grandchildren.
Mildred was born on April 25, 1918 in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of Clare and Lela (Stephens) Bradford. She graduated from Oregon High School in Oregon, Illinois in 1936 and from NIU, formerly Northern Illinois State Teacher College, in DeKalb, Illinois in 1940. She taught home economics in Malta, Illinois from 1940 to 1941.
Mildred married Charles Lane on June 14, 1941. She was a member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Mary Martha Circle, and the Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary. Mildred loved many types of arts and crafts and gifted numerous handmade projects to her family and friends. Felt Christmas tree ornaments were her specialty and still adorn the trees of family members.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Roe and son-in-law,Thomas, as well as by her two grandchildren, Tamara Roe (Michael Kucha) and Christopher Roe (Theresa), of Bellevue and Kirkland, Washington and two great grandchildren, Charles and Elise Roe, and her sister, Jane Anderson of Davis, California and many nieces and nephews. Her three brothers, LaVerne, Richard and Charles Loren Bradford have predeceased her, as have her parents, her husband Charles Lane, one infant daughter, Marsha.
A memorial service for Mildred Lane will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Rochelle, Illinois. Donations may be made in her memory to the Rochelle United Methodist Church.
