Mildred E. Sassaman, 97 of Rochelle, passed away on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Franklin Grove Nursing Center. She was born on July l5, 1913 at Harrison, IL, the daughter of Ray A.and Ellen Jane (Gray) Pierce. She attended schools in Rockford, graduating from Central High School in 1931. In 1934, she graduated from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing. Mildred married Lawrence Lockard Sassaman on Dec. 31, 1935 in Rockford, IL and he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1984. She was also preceded by a brother: Ray Pierce, sister: Irma Hyland; daughter-in-law: Judy Sassaman and son-in-law: Tom Galt. She was active in the Rochelle Presbyterian Church , R.N. Club and did private duty nursing.

Survivors include sons: Ron Sassaman of Rochelle, Jerry (Donna) Sassaman of Chana, and Dennis Sassaman of Peoria; daughter: Judy (John) Galt of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Kim(Greg) Burgess, Sherri (Kevin) Smith, Wacey Sassaman, Amy (Scott) Hosler, Jennifer (Ted) Gray, Jim Galt, and John Galt; 13 great grandchildren; sister: Joyce (Jerry) Hobel of Rockford; brother: Ralph (Virginia) Pierce of Westmont, IL

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday January 28, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Munn Hinds officiating.
Visitation from 10AM to 10:45 prior to the service at the church.
