Mona E. Robison 85, of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Rochelle Gardens.
She was born on Nov. 25, 1924 in Russell, IA to Lawrence Earl and Mildred M. (Judy) Robison. She graduated from Lanark High School in 1942, and received her RN diploma in nursing from Kohler Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. Mona was a member of the
Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. She received from Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN
a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Degree.
Early in her nursing career, Mona was an Infirmary Nurse at Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, IL.
As a nurse anesthetist, she worked at Iowa City, IA and in Champaign, IL and then moved to Rochelle in 1965 and was employed by Rochelle Community Hospital from 1965-1972.
In order to learn new technics and procedures, she moved to Des Moines, IA to join a group
of anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists. Later, seeing a need for respite from "24 hours on
call" Mona elected to freelance working in blocks of time as a relief anesthetist. During her
uncommitted time, she enjoyed traveling in Europe as well as attendance at professional retreats
where she was exposed to and embraced the holistic health concept. She became certified in workshops and seminars on biofeedback and hospice training. Her final work related to health
professions was as a case worker in Older Adult Services with Lutheran Family Services.
Memberships include First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle and was a charter member and first president of Rochelle Business and Professional Women. She served on the Board of the Sinnissippi Mental Health Center 1984-1985 and was President of the Mental Health Association
of Ogle County. She was involved with volunteers of Literacy Training through Kishwaukee College and had an interest in the League of Women Voters.
Preceding her in death were her parents and sister Eleanor Robison on Dec. 16, 2002
Survivors include a sister: Earldine (Wesley) Sampson of Sylvania, OH; nieces: Ann (Olaf)
Scholten of Peize, Netherlands and Lisa (Bruce) Sampson Wenger of Arlington, VA; grand nieces: Clair Wenger, Cynthia Wenger and Laura Scholten and 4 cousins.
Cremation rites were arranged by Unger-Horner Funeral Horner and Cremation Services. Memorial grave side service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Lanark Cemetery in Lanark, Illinois with Rev. Dr. James A. Tilley officiating.
