Nestor M. Metzger, 84, of Rochelle, passed away unexpectedly doing what he loved to do . . . farming. His Savior Jesus took him home for eternal rest on Tuesday, July 6, 2010. He was born on Feb. 26, 1926 in White River, SD, to Adolf J. and Martha (Wegehaupt) Metzger. Nestor married Elizabeth H. Eckhardt on Aug. 14, 1949 in Rochelle. He was employed in farming and continued driving tractors until his death. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle and VFW Post 3878. He entered the military in 1945, doing his basic training at Camp Stonemann, CA and serving in the 34th Army Infantry in Japan during WWII. Preceding him in death were his wife: Elizabeth; granddaughters: Angela and Roxanne Browning: 6 brothers; Ewald, Rinehalt and Walter Metzger; and Fritz, William and Herman Bialas; 3 sisters: Martha and Bertha Bialas and Hanna Metzger Schaver.
Survivors include children: Carol (Tim) Harland of Dinuba, CA, Marvin (Mary Jo) Metzger of Rochelle and Diann Metzger of Rochelle; brother: Lorenz Metzger of Rochelle; sisters: Ruth Schnuckel of Mendota and Olga (Jim) Howard of Aurora; sister in law: Lib Metzger of Aurora, 7 grandchildren: Russell Harland of Visalia, CA, Jon Harland of Rochelle, Danelle (Dan) Riederer of Cedarburg, WI, Nora (Justin) Brooks of Grafton, WI, Gabriel Metzger of Rochelle, Abby (Bryan) Arensdorff of Long Grove, IA and Desiree (Chad) Duncan of Taylors, SC; great grandchildren: Elizabeth Duncan of Taylors, SC and a great grandchild due in September.
Services will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM
with Rev. Greg Hoffman. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 PM at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery. Military service provided by V.F.W Post 3878 of Rochelle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or School.
