Norman A. Horn, 84, of Rochelle, IL, passed away Dec. 17, 2009, at Rochelle Gardens following a long illness. He was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Caledonia, MN, the son of Arthur Horn and Edna (Lee) Horn Benson.
He married Verna Mae Kendall on July 15, 1961. He served in the US Army during World War II, where he was wounded in battle and earned the Purple Heart. He worked 17 years for the Northwestern Railroad and 25 years for Chrysler Motors in Belvidere. An avid bowler and fisherman, he was also an airplane and railroad enthusiast. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lowell Horn.
Survivors include his wife, Verna of Rochelle; daughters, Cindy Eaton of Cape Coral, FL; Kathy Bush of Hattiesburg, MS, and Wendy Horn of Rochelle; son, Dean (Vicky) Wren of Rochelle; sister, Gloria Barros of Kenosha, WI; brother, Roger Benson, of Spring Lake Park, MN; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Trinity Memory Gardens, Rochelle, with Pastor Gregory Hoffmann officiating. Memorials can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Unger Horner Funeral Home is assistitng the family.
