Rockford

Osvaldo Amaro, 92, formerly of Rochelle, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born January 28, 1931, in Cuba, the son of Daniel and Aida (Perez) Amaro. He married Maria Abreu on October 31, 1959.

Osvaldo came to the United States from Cuba on a sponsorship from the Methodist Church. He worked at Del Monte as a machine operator for 35 years until his retirement in 1995. Osvaldo was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a quiet man who could be silly at times but was also very wise. He was considered by friends to be "everybody's dad." He and his wife, Maria, have helped countless immigrant families to settle in the United States, regardless of where they came from.

Osvaldo is survived by his wife, Maria, of Rockford; two children, Lizet Amaro of Rockford and Osvaldo Amaro Jr. of DeKalb; and a grandson, Emilio Amaro of Richmond, KY.

In addition to his parents, Osvaldo is preceded in death by two brothers, Ovidio and Onelio Amaro.

A funeral service will take place at 3:00 P.M. Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Iglesia Buenas Nuevas Asamblea de Dios, 200 Wayne Rd., in Rochelle. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Cremation care will be provided following the funeral services.
