IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Phyllis Joy
Grasty
January 11, 1949 – February 7, 2023
Phyllis Joy Grasty, 74, passed away peacefully at her home in DeKalb, IL, Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Joy was born on January 11, 1949 to Cleo and Evis (Earney) Bouland in DeWitt, Arkansas. She married Richard E. Grasty on August 15, 1975. Starting at the age of 16, she began working for General Electric and became so valuable to the company with her knowledge that after she retired, she was a consultant for GE.
As a movie aficionado, she went to the movie theater twice a week every week to keep up on the latest movies. She also enjoyed having fun at the river boat. Joy was a league champion bowler; her top score being a 297. Locally, she was known for her fudge and within the family she was known as the family photographer. Being the matriarch of the family and one of the most organized people, Joy made sure every single person in her large extended family received a birthday card every year. She also was the hostess for family Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Her ultimate joy was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, spoiling them every chance she could. Going fishing in the back pond with them was an especially favorite activity.
Joy is survived by her husband, Richard of DeKalb; her son, Rich of DeKalb; five grandchildren: Joy, Faith, Richard, Jackson and Kramer Grasty; two brothers: Steve Bouland of Dixon, IL and Phillip (Roxanne) Bouland of Branson, MO; four sisters: Linda (Del Jr.) Windland of Rochelle, IL, Kay Bouland of Dexter, MO, Melody Bouland of Webster, TX and Lydia Bouland of Harrison, AR and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her son, Charles Long on April 20, 2021; two brothers: Tim and Ronnie Bouland and sister, Diane Bouland.
