Ralph J. Carr, 85 of Byron, IL, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Swedish American
Hospital in Rockford. He was born on May 29, 1924 in Brookville, IL to Ralph Angel and Edith Gertrude (Irvin) Carr. His ancestors were among the first settlers of Ogle County. Graduated 1942, from Rochelle Township High School and attended Bradley University in Peoria. On Aug. 23, 1952, he married Ruby Anne Grover in Rochelle. Prior to retirement, he owned Carr's Plumbing and Heating. Ralph was a WWII Veteran and memberships include Byron American Legion #209, Ogle County Geneology Society, Rock River Center, and VFW Post 3878 of Rochelle. He never felt he was retired and needed to remain busy. Ralph was knowledgeable about almost everything and helped many that were down on their luck. He loved his family and all animals, especially dogs and cats. Preceded by his parents and son-in-law: David Newman

Survivors include his wife: Ruby of Byron; son: Rev. Ralph I. Carr of Rochelle; daughters: Leanne Newman of Belvidere, Barbara (Tom) Winebaugh of Rochelle, and Linda (Orville) Good of Rochelle; sister: Nancy (Harold "Nels") Nelson of Mt. Morris, IL; 12 grandchildren: Derek (Karen) Good, Jeremy (Lisa) Good, Jacob (Rosemary Ellis) Good, Andrew Good, Adam
Newman, Jennifer Newman, Joshua Winebaugh, Aimee Winebaugh, Lucas Winebaugh, Jason Kelly) Carr, Matthew Carr, and Ralph Wesley Carr; and 2 great grandchildren: Bryar and Magdalene Good. and expecting another in March.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Dow officiating assisted by Rev. Ralph I. Carr. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 - 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Burial at Trinity Memory Gardens with Military Services by V.F.W. Post 3878. A memorial has been established.
