C. Raymond Kannheiser 99 of Rochelle, IL died Saturday Feb. 26, 2011 at Rochelle Community Hospital with his family by his side. Born Feb. 17, 1912 in Lawrence, MA. The son of John and Lena (Hahn) Kannheiser, he was the youngest of 9 children.
He married Virginia Tappenden in Rochelle on Feb. 17, 1938. She preceded him on April 19, 1995. Also preceded by a daughter Lee Shallenberger on Jan. 8, 1996 and all of his brothers and sisters including Helen Schofield.
Ray was employed at Morgan Dye & Bleaching and Caron International for almost 40 years. He then spent 25 years as a crossing guard for Rochelle Elementary Schools.
He was a Member of St Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle, Rochelle Golden K's and Hub City Senior Center. He holds a Guinness World Record for being the oldest person to be baptized.
Survived by a son Raymond (Barb) Kannheiser of Rochelle. Grandchildren Shelly(Harry) Trefes of Kentucky, Renee Anders and Mike (Carri) Kannheiser all of Rochelle. Great Grand children Tarryn and Amber Anders, Marrisa and Kayden Kannheiser of Rochelle, Ryan and Austin Trefes of Kentucky. Great great-grandson Damian Anders.
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March 1, 2011 in St Patrick Catholic Church with visitation from 9:30 to service time. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Rochelle Golden K and Hub City Senior Center.
