Richard D. Danekas, 80, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Katherine Beta Shaw Hospital in Dixon, Illinois. Richard was born August 9, 1933 in West Brooklyn, Illinois to Wilfred and Laura (Frakes) Danekas. He married Doris Irene Zell on November 14, 1958 in Chana, IL. Richard farmed most of his life in the Chana area. Life held many enjoyments for him. He loved farming with his brothers and dad, Nascar 24, watching sports, riding horses and especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, two brothers: Wayne and Wilfred Jr. and his daughter, Dixie.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, six children: Diane (Jeff) Strite of Oregon, Lora (Steve) Stenzel of Oregon, Rick (Janice) Danekas of Mt. Morris, Kim Marth of Chana, Jim (Joanne) Danekas of Leaf River and Chuck (Menchu) Danekas of Polo; his brother, Bob (Delores) Danekas of Rochelle, 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Pastor Al Meyer officiating. The visitation will be prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 11:45.

Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle. Burial is at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Oregon Ambulance Service.
