Richard Paul Herrmann, 92, formerly of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at The Reserves at Oswego in Oswego, Illinois. Richard was born on April 6, 1933 in Rochelle, IL to Wilbur and Catherine (DeCourcey) Herrmann.
He attended St. Patrick Grade School and graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1952. Following in his brother, Jerome’s, footsteps, Richard also received the Hackett Trophy in football. He proudly served with the United States Army. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Church in Rochelle. On September 17, 2011, he married Beverly Jane Cannella in Maple Park, IL.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three brothers: Captain Donald Herrmann, who served in the US Army in WWII under General George Patton, Jerome Herrmann, who was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy and Thomas (Patricia) Herrmann.
Richard is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Hinckley, IL; step daughter, Amanda (John) Popelka of Hinckley, IL; three step grandchildren: Danielle Popelka, Mark Popelka, and Natalie Popelka; and seven step great grandchildren: Brian Popelka, Trista Popelka-Weekly, Chloe Popelka-Zwart, Monte and Charlotte Popelka and Hazelynn and Theodore Jordan
The visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday with Father Jesus Dominguez officiating. Burial is at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rochelle with military services provided by the Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard and the Army Honor Guard.
