Obituary

Rick J. Greenwald (Rick Green), 74, passed away on October 3, 2026, in Franklin Grove, Illinois. He was born on March 10, 1952, the son of Morris and Rogene (Kruse) Greenwald.

Rick grew up on the family farm in Chana, Illinois. He graduated from Stillman Valley High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Radio-Television from Southern Illinois University.

After graduation, Rick, known professionally as Rick Green, made Rochelle his home and began a career at WRHL, where he was employed for more than 40 years. During his many years in radio, Rick recorded countless commercials and hosted the weekly Trading Post. He became a well-known and beloved radio personality throughout the Rochelle area. His distinctive deep voice, sharp mind, and easy way with people made him a trusted presence in the community and a valued partner to many local businesses that chose to advertise on WRHL because of him.

Rick was an intelligent and engaging conversationalist. A lifelong student of history and politics, he could always be counted on to share something thoughtful, insightful, or new. He was a member of the Rochelle Rotary Club. Rick was a true friend to many and a loving, caring relative. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rick is survived by his nieces, Angela (Andy) Shaw of Dixon, Illinois, and Jessica (Ryan Getz) Greenwald of Davenport, Iowa; great-nieces, Sophie Shaw, Gracie Schillaci, and Cecilia Schillaci; and sister-in-law, Jeannie Greenwald of Dixon, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kerry Greenwald; great-niece, Ava Shaw; and great-nephew, infant Anthony Robert Shaw.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, Illinois. Private burial will take place at a later date at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle.

Memorials will be established by the family.
