Robert L. Blomberg of Rochelle, IL died Saturday Dec. 22, 2012 in Franklin Grove Nursing Home. He was the son of Theodore C. and Anna Johnson Blomberg. On Feb. 14, 1958 he married Margaret M. Sauers in Paynes Point, IL. She preceded him on Nov. 17, 2004. Also preceded by 4 brothers: Walter, Wallace, Don and LaVerne "Ernie" Blomberg, 2 sisters: Judy Cook and Donna Braddy, and 2 nephews: Tim Blomberg and Christopher Cook.
Robert served in the U.S. Army during WW II in North Africa , Germany and in the Battle of the Bulge in Normandy, France, earning the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and 4 Overseas Service Bars. He worked as a mechanic for Del Monte until he along with his brothers, Don and Ernie, owned and operated Blomberg Motors in Rochelle from 1964 to 1989.
He was a member of Rochelle V.F.W. Post 3878.
Survived by sister-in-laws: Rogene Blomberg and Marvel Blomberg both of Rochelle, and 8 nieces and nephews: Ronald (Cindy) Blomberg, Linda (Michael) Pottinger, Cindy (Terry) Mace, Barry (Donna) Blomberg, Jill (Raymond) Talbott, Jim (Kathy) Blomberg, Julie (Steve) Steele, and Jeff Harms, and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack M. Briggs officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 - 10:45 am Friday prior to the funeral.
Burial be in Lawnridge cemetery in Rochelle with military honors by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
