Robert Hugh Felker, 81, of Rochelle IL, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL surrounded by his family.
Bob was born April 8, 1931 in Freeport, IL, the son of Hugh and Ruth (Newcomer) Felker. He spent his childhood years in Mt. Morris, IL and then attended Iowa State University, earning a degree in Agriculture. He wed his childhood sweetheart, Suzanne Billig, on August 18, 1951 in Mt. Morris, IL. Bob is predeceased by his parents and daughter-in-law, Georgia "Dee" Felker.
Bob began his employment with Del Monte Corporation in 1954 and was a dedicated employee for 35 years which included several cross country relocations. He retired in 1989 and enjoyed gardening and keeping the family farm beautiful. The farm blossomed over the years with his careful management and determination. He was a life-long caretaker of God's creation. For 32 years, he looked forward to being on the beach at Anna Maria Island, FL. Hope, his Westie, held a special place in his heart.
In the past, Bob participated in his community as Rochelle Chamber of Commerce President 1978-1979, GREDCO and Rochelle Community Hospital Foundation Board. He is currently a member of Golden K, Rochelle United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Valley of Freeport, Tebala Shrine and a member for over 50 years of the Horicon Masonic Lodge #244.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue, and his three children, Bob of Rockford, Bill (Janell) of Crystal, MN, and Barb (Ray) Reineck of Rochelle. Bob especially loved his grandchildren: Samuel Felker, Sarah (Jacob) Zaske, Suzie (Mark) Hester, Sage Felker, Ruthie Felker, Ali (Dylan) Reid and Brooke (Max) Sulzberger. He was blessed to welcome six great-grand children: Sierra, Caleb, Addison, Shayley, Claire and Grace. Also survived by brother, Albert (Marge) Felker and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rochelle United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013, with Rev. Cindy Marino, Pastor Jacob Zaske and Chaplain Judy Williams. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00, Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Morris at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rochelle Horicon Masonic Lodge 244. Rochelle Golden K or Rochelle United Methodist Church.
