Reverend Robert L. Miller, age 78, of Rochelle, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides loving and caring for his family, he served others always before himself. He was a rock to his family - leaving a legacy that we can only hope to pass on. His light for Christ's love was never dim.
He was born on April 27, 1933 in Little River, KS, to Godfrey and Albertha (Nelson) Miller. He earned a degree in Pastoral Studies from the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. From 1951-1953, he was a Sgt in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob married Edna Guymon on July 29, 1954 in Raton, NM. Rev. Miller, pastored the West Mineral Bible Baptist Church from 1962 until 1965, and the Hillcrest Baptist Church from 1965-1992. He was Ogle County Sheriff Chaplain for 16 years, served the Tres Dias Community, R.O.C.K. weekends and was a Foster Parent for Focus House for 25 years. Bob served his Lord, family and friends faithfully. He was a man of integrity, dependable and loyal. He was also a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Memberships include Harvest Baptist Church, V.F.W. Post 3878 and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife: Edna of Rochelle; daughters: Sharlene (Joe) Meadows of Rochelle and Kathleen (Fred ) Harrolle of Rockford; son: John (Joy) Miller of Rochelle;
grandchildren: Michelle (Travis Peterson) Vogeler of Kalispell, MT, Scott (Lindsey Lowe) Vogeler of Rockford,
Sarah Meadows of Geneva, IL, Jennifer (Kyle) Kissack of Rochelle, Jonathan, Elizabeth and Zachary Miller of Rochelle; great grandchildren: Bryn, Reese, and Tess Kissack of Rochelle,
brother: Don (Marilyn) Miller of Little River, KS and sister: Joyce (Dan) Hannah of Lyons, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Helen Egholm.
Services will be held at Crossroads Community Church in Rochelle, with Rev. Steve Boothe and
Rev. Duane Boehm on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Visitation Thursday, Feb. 16th at Crossroads Community Church from 3 to 7 PM. Arrangements by Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery with Military Services by Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard. Memorials to Rockford Rescue Mission or Focus House in Rochelle.
