Rodney K. Wendt, 76, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Pinecrest Terrace in Mt. Morris, IL. Rodney was born July 6, 1939 to Kenneth A. and Clara (Kugler) Wendt in Rochelle, IL. He married Norene Voss on January 18, 1969 in Ashton, IL. Rod was a Rochelle Police Officer, a Master Sergeant for the Illinois State Police and a court security Corporal for the Ogle County Sheriff's Department. He dedicated his life to his family and took pride in protecting and serving his community. Rod enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending his children and grandchildren's activities. He loved to joke around and share stories with his numerous friends and second family at Spring Valley Restaurant in Oregon.
Rodney, who was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ashton, is survived by his wife, Norene, three children: Dawn (John) Edwards of Dixon, IL, Kenneth (Stephanie) Wendt of Mt. Morris, IL and Cindy Wendt of Oregon, IL; his sister, Janice Osborough of Virginia Bearch, VA; and five grandchilden: Darianne Edwards, Hannah Edwards, Brianna Edwards, Kaden Wendt and Madelyn Wendt.
The funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 15, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 803 Paddock Ave., Ashton, IL with Pastor Jonathan Black officiating. The visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, August 14 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. Burial will follow the service at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. Memorials may be made to Pinecrest Terrace or Serenity Hospice and Home.
