Roland "Lum" Alderks, age 81, formerly of Kings, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Integrity Hospital in Denton, TX. He had moved from Kings to Pocahontas, AR over six years ago. Born September 17, 1931 in Chana, IL. He was the son of Menne and Margaret (Yardley) Alderks. Lum married Pauline Winebaugh on June 28th, 1952. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Menno "Bud" Alderks. Lum was a career bricklayer/mason, and along with his brother, Bud, they owned and operated Bud and Lums Tavern in Kings for 41 years. Lum enjoyed bowling and with his buddies while living in Kings. He also enjoyed taking his family to baseball games. He and Pauline, along with their friends, loved to travel around to the local bluegrass festivals. He also enjoyed spending time at the casinos on the slot machines (He was always pretty lucky too!).
He is survived by his daughter: Denese (Mike) Ciaccio of Double Oak, Texas; and two sons: Gary (Cathy) Alderks of Henderson, Nev. and Randy (Barb) Alderks of Plainfield, IL. Grandchildren: Jodi, Jennifer, Alex, Kasey, Tony, Addie, Hannah and Olivia. Great grandchildren: Justin, Alyssa, Kira and Lily. Lum was loved by his family, friends, and community and will be dearly missed.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18th, 2013 in White Rock Cemetery, Kings.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 17th, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle.
Memorials can be made in Lum's name to Elim Reformed Church, Kings.
