Obituary

Ronald O. Brucki, age 75, passed away on January 1, 2026, following a sudden medical emergency. He died knowing he was deeply loved and, most importantly, that he was not alone.

Born on December 31, 1950, in LaSalle, Illinois, Ron lived a life marked by resilience, quiet strength, and a dry sense of humor that stayed with him through every season. A U.S. Army veteran, Ron carried a sense of duty and perseverance throughout his life, values that showed up not in grand gestures but in his steady, dependable presence.

Ron dedicated many years of his professional life to serving others as Food Service Director at Ottawa Regional Hospital, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to caring for people in practical, meaningful ways.

Ron found joy in simple pleasures: music, sci-fi movies, the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and everyday routines that brought comfort and familiarity. He shared a special bond with his loyal dog, Bear, who rarely left his side and brought him companionship and purpose. Ron’s kindness showed up quietly, often in ways only those closest to him fully saw.

Ron is survived by his children, Josh, Alex, and his daughter Tonya; his sisters Rose Anderson and Virginia Mertel; his brothers Leonard and Bruce; and extended family and friends who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Myrtle, and by his beloved son, Christopher, whose memory he carried with him always.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street, Rochelle, Illinois. A private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Ron’s memory quiet check-ins with those who may be struggling, or donations to a veterans’ organization or mental health charity of your choosing.

Ron will be remembered for his humor, his heart, and the steady love he gave so freely.
