Rochelle

Ronald "Stony" Stonebraker, 67, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Rockford. Stony was born February 27, 1951 in Mt. Morris, IL, the son of Russell and Carolyn (Abbott) Stonebraker.

Stony has been a Rochelle resident since 1974. He worked as an ironworker for over 30 years through Local 63. Stony served as a City of Rochelle Fire and Police Commissioner for 15 years. He was an original member of the Rochelle Fire Department Dive Rescue Team. Stony helped the Jarvis family during planting and harvest season for over 15 years. He dedicated many hours of service to the Rochelle community, providing his time and resources any way he could. Stony was an avid sports fan. He played in numerous Rochelle softball leagues when hewas younger. He especially loved golf and football.

Stony is survived by his children, Shane (Cassie) Stonebraker, Christy (Ryan) Russo, Maria (Joseph) Quast, and Racheal Cecchetti; five grandchildren, Reed Carter Stonebraker, Addison and Lylla Russo, and Kinley and Kolton Quast; two brothers, Jim and Jeff Stonebraker; Shane's mother, Dottie Stafford; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Stony is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1-7 P.M. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle. Cremation care will be provided after the visitation.
