Ronald F. Hansen, age 85, died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the
Rochelle Rehabilitation
Center. He was born on Aug. 29, 1927 in Rochelle, IL to L. Bent and Emma (Bergeson) Hansen.
He attended Lincoln and Central grade schools and graduated from RTHS in 1946, receiving the Hackett Trophy for excelling in Sports. Ron married Leota Finnestad on Sept. 23, 1950 at the Rochelle United Methodist Church.
He served in the Korean Conflict as a staff sergeant 1st Calvery
Division, 7th Regiment then in Hokaido, Japan Camp Crawford until
returning to the U.S. in April of 1952. Then was at Camp Atterbary, IN until being discharged in September of 1952. He was a Rochelle Policeman until becoming a journeyman for IBEW Local 364 of Rockford. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of the American Legion of Rochelle; Life member of both
the VFW Post 3878, and the United Methodist Church of Rochelle, and
belonged to the Golden K Kiwanis Club, receiving the Hixson Award in 2000.
Ron served on the Zoning Committee of Rochelle, and in 2004 was inducted into the Rochelle Township High School Hall of Fame. He was a loyal Hub and Chicago Bears Fan, being a Bears season ticket holder for 65 years.
Preceded in death by his brothers; Leonard, Kenneth, and Sisters; Glenese,
Beverly and Patricia, and his parents.
Survivors include his wife: Leota; 3 Daughters: Karla (Ron) Steder of Rochelle, Ronda (Roy) Threlkeld of Rochelle, and Paula (Dennis) Hewitt of Rochelle; and his grandchildren: Jon Mykrantz, Elizabeth (Mykrantz)
Formell, Brandon Watson, Meredith (Hewitt) Wodka, Mark Hewitt, Mallory (Hewitt) Glover, Candice, Amanda, and Mat Steder, Mitch and Eric Watson;
15 great grand Children; His brother: Carl (Peggy)Hansen of Abilene, KS; and sisters: Marlene (Galen) Kruger of Sikeston, MO and Blenda (Jill)Lillie of Punta Gorda, FL.
Memorial service will be at 7 pm on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the
Rochelle United Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Marino, and Chaplain Judy
Williams officiating.
Visitation also on Monday from 5:00 PM - 6:45 PM prior to memorial service at the Church Memorials to Rochelle United Methodist Church and to the
Arthritis Foundation. Inurnment at Lawnridge Cemetery at a later date.
