Obituary

Ronald C. "Ron" Steder, 72, of Rochelle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born on January 26, 1948 in Amboy, IL to Paul and Pauline (Schauer) Steder. He married Karla Hansen Watson on April 4, 1997 in Rochelle. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Candace Steder, as well as his beloved brother, Jim Steder.

Ron was a Rochelle Township High School Alumni and served as a "Weekend Warrior" in the
Army National Guard. He owned and operated Steder Diesel for over 30 years. Ron was deeply devoted to the Rochelle community, volunteering countless hours in elementary classrooms as a reading aide. Students loved Ron, and teachers admired his influence on the children. Ron was also heavily involved in the Rochelle Little League, his second home for many years. He spent his time coaching, mentoring and guiding the youth of Rochelle, many of whom still share memories of his impact with the family decades later. Ron was a deeply dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He loved fiercely and was known for his hugs. He was exceptionally hard-working, compassionate and treasured each one of the cups of coffee his grandchildren brought him.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, whom he loved without measure, Karla of Rochelle, IL; four children: Candace Tuetken of New Port Richey, FL; Amanda Steder of Belvidere, IL; Mathew (Amy) Steder of Rochelle, IL and Brandon (Jackie) Watson of Sterling, IL; brothers: Bill (Teresa) Steder of Elgin, IL and Bob Steder of West Brooklyn, IL; sister-in-law, Bonnie Steder of Rochelle; five grandchildren: Tyler Tuetken, Gavin Rhoads, Madison Steder, Evelyn and Olivia Watson.

The family will be having a private gathering to celebrate Ron's life. In lieu of flowers, Ron wished for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
