Rupert P. Schiller, 84 of Kings, IL, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at Rochelle Community Hospital Rochelle. He was born on Sept. 25, 1926, the son of Paul G. And Louise E. (Tosch) Schiller on a farm 3 miles east of Pittsville, WI. He attended Pittsville High School and graduated in 1944 in the same class with his wife, Jean. Rupert married Jean I. Gardner on Aug. 26, 1950 in Pittsville, WI. He worked on the family dairy farm until he moved with his family Sept. 28, 1956 to the Caron farm near Rochelle, where he worked until he moved with his family to their home in Kings on Dec. 1, 1965. Rupert worked in construction for a few years and then worked for the Swift Meat Packing Plant in Rochelle from 1968-1980, when the plant closed. He then worked for Rochelle High School on the grounds until November 1991. Rupert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and he and his wife celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in 2000. His hobbies were wood working and gardening. He made nice wood furniture for his family, including grandfather clocks for his children and other family members.
He was a member of the Kings Presbyterian Church from 1965 until the church closed in the fall of 2005 and then transferred his membership to the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle. He was also a member of Rochelle Golden K.
Preceding Rupert in death were his parents, sister: Phyllis Christian; and triplets (two sisters and a brother), who died in infancy.
Survivors include wife: Jean of Kings, IL; son: Douglas (Nathalie) Schiller of Oregon, IL;
daughters: Deb Schiller of Holcomb, IL and Diane (Dean) Montgomery of Houston, MN;
brother: Karl (Karleen) Schiller of Pittsville, WI; sister: Mary Jane (Vern) Getlinger of Madison WI; grandchildren: Amy (Mike) Mershon of Davis Junction, IL, Lisa (Clint) Tighe of Oregon IL, and Sam and Becky Montgomery of Houston, MN; great grandchildren: Audrey and Anna Rainwater, and Trevor Tighe.
Services will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, on Thursday, August 18, 2011at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dr. Munn Hinds. Visitation at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, from 4 to 7 PM on Wed., Aug. 17th. Burial at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle. Memorials to the King School Foundation or to the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle.
