Obituary

Scott Hicks, 72, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 after a short battle with cancer, at his home with his family by his side. Scott was born March 21, 1942 to Earl and Lois (Scott) Hicks in Squires, Missouri. He married Ruth K. Paxton on November 16, 1963 in Smallet, MO. Scott served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church. Scott was a hard worker, a green thumb genius, and he loved to talk to friends and strangers alike. He could play any song by ear on his guitar, as well as writing music, and played and sang in the Country Gospel Band. His voice was deep and calming, and would put your soul at ease. Scott drove big rigs, rode Harleys and loved Jesus. He had calloused hands and a gentle heart full of love for his friends and family. Scott is preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Lois, and his twin sister at birth.

Scott is survived by his wife, Ruth Hicks of Rochelle; two sons: Hersel (Kim) Hicks of Rochelle, and Dustin (Sharon) Hicks of Rockford; 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mike) Williams, Kristina (Travis) Jackson, Timothy and Jonathan Hicks, Tanesha (Kevin) Quick, Tiffany Robertson, Amanda (Adam) Schildmeier, Tiffany (Abe) Rodriquez, Ashley Emrick and Kyle (Lindsey) Emrick; 13 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Tristin and MaKayla Williams, Jace and Lacey Jackson, Kayleighann and Garrett Quick, Ava, Brayden and Annabel Schildmeier, Abraham Rodriguez, Liam Harcastle and Jude Emrick; two brothers: Blaine (Brenda) Hicks and Jason (Donna) Hicks of Rochelle and sister, Carol Hicks McCarter also of Rochelle; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Pastor Duane Boehm officiating. The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, February 12 at the funeral home. The burial will follow the service at Trinity Memory Gardens with a military service provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
