Obituary

Scott Kermit Sanderson, 59, formerly of Rochelle, suddenly passed away on December 31, 2013, at his home in Colorado. In his passing, he has been supported by the love and continual prayers of family and friends as he entered into the arms of the angels.
He was born at Rochelle Community Hospital on January 13, 1954, to Byron and
Margaret (Greenfield) Sanderson. Scott graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1972. He furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Metropolitan State College in Denver. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Connextions Corporation in Centennial, Colorado, as a medical insurance consultant.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Gretchen Sanderson and brother-in-law, Greg Ward, of Greenwood Village, Colorado; his brother, Jeff Sanderson and sister-in-law, Donna Sanderson of Centennial, Colorado; his niece, Katherine Sanderson, who is presently attending Santa Clara
University in California; his aunt, Mary Alice Manning of Belvidere; his cousin, John (Martha) Manning of Rockford; his cousin, Susan (Gene) Mead of Belvidere; his cousin, Joyce (Mike) Wolf of Belvidere; his uncle, Jim (Marilyn) Greenfield of Carmel, Indiana; his uncle, Wayne (Bonnie) Greenfield of Niceville, Florida; his cousin, Bill (Karen) Greenfield of Alpharetta, Georgia; his cousin, Barry (Pat)
Greenfield of St. Petersburg, Florida; his cousin, Terry (Denise) Greenfield of
Ashton; his cousin, Stan (Mary) Greenfield of Aurora, Nebraska; his cousin, Steve (Hillary) Greenfield of Wayne, New Jersey; his cousin, Ron Frakes of DeKalb; his cousin, Steve (Joanne) Sullivan of Skokie; his cousin, Kathleen Sullivan of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; his cousin, Phil (Darlene) Sanderson of Sacramento, California; his cousin, Roger Sanderson of Tampa, Florida; and wonderful, dear friends who he cherished.
Scott was active in Rochelle High School athletics. He lettered in basketball and baseball. "Scottie," as he was known by his teammates, was a quick 5' 7" guard who was an excellent long-range shooter and winner of the Hall trophy in 1972 for free throw shooting. The Rochelle Hubs basketball team took home the Regional Championship during the very exciting 1970-71 season. Scott also closely followed the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and Denver Nuggets. His family and friends were continually amazed at his uncanny ability to recite plays, statistics and players from the past. Nothing was more pleasing to Scott than sharing a beautiful rocky mountain evening at Coors Field with his brother, Jeff, watching the Rockies try for a win. Jeff was the brother that Scott adored and held close to his heart . . . a brother we all wish we had. He was also the family "pet sitter" who could not do enough for the cats and fish that he would faithfully care for when others were out of town. His favorite cats, Mork, Mindy, Mirth and Peaches would always be on his lap as soon as he found a chair to sit in. Animals loved Scott and he found great satisfaction in returning that love.
The Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday,
January 25, at the Rochelle United Methodist Church, 709 Fourth Avenue with the Rev. Cindy Marino officiating. A visitation will be at the Church prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. Memorials are to the Rochelle United Methodist Church. An online guest book is available at www.ungerhorner.com.
Our beloved brother, Scott, lived a life of quiet faith, gentleness and kindness toward all . . . a little flower in the living garden of the Lord. He demonstrated that during his mother's funeral just a few weeks ago, as he outwardly comforted his Aunt Mary Alice and other family members . . . even while wiping his own tears during the service. May this beautiful soul rest in peace with the promise of life everlasting fulfilled.
