Shirley M. Combs, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford, IL after a sudden illness. Shirley was born November 2, 1927 to John and Dora (Rogde) Jacobs in Rochelle. She married James H. Combs on September 22, 1946 in Rochelle. Jim preceded her on October 26, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents, brother, Jerry Jacobs, and two sisters: Jean Dodson and Betty Kisner. Shirley enjoyed going out to eat with friends, group trips including trips to the casino and spending time with family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by two sons: Jimmy Joe (Paula) Combs and Donald Combs both of Rochelle; one daughter, Eva (Jerry) Medine, also of Rochelle; six grandchildren: Chris Combs, Scott (Megan) Combs, Kyle (Marisa Tague) Combs, Jackie (Dan) Cruz, Alicia Medine and Justin Medine; six great grandchildren: Patrick and John Combs, Payton, Austin and Jackson Cruz and Leon Combs, sister-in-law, Maxine Jacobs, special friends: Joanne, Bethel, Elaine and Daisy and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, March 9 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. Memorials may be made to the Hub City Senior Center.
