Shirley R. Haas, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Oregon, IL. Shirley was born August 9, 1925 to George W. and Ruth I. (Osborne) Sanders in Rochelle. She married Ronald C. Haas on May 19, 1945 in Rockford, IL. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1986. She worked as a beautician for many years out of her home studio. She is also preceded in death by her parents, George Sanders and Ruth Eden; infant daughter, Sue Ellen Haas; grandson, Chad Ronald Haas; and daughter-in-law, Kathleen A. Haas.
Besides being an avid Cubs and Bears fan, Shirley loved being outside on warm sunny days and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was famous for her chocolate sodas, chocolate chip cookies, apple crisp and homemade cinnamon rolls. Her granddaughters will never forget the special times they had spending every Friday night with her when they were young. Shirley was a member of Friendly Society, Women's Club, Bridge Club and her church choir. She had a beautiful voice and loved attending church. All who knew Shirley knew she took great pride in looking her best, no matter the occasion.
Shirley is survived by two sons: Stanley (Phyllis Carter) Haas of Galesburg, IL and William "Bill" Haas of Rochelle; five granddaughters: Jodi (Skip) Sage of Rochelle, Julie (Randy) McRoberts of Waterman, IL, Jennifer (Roger) Bruns of Rochelle, Katie (Scott) Kohler of Rochelle and Kelly Haas of Rochelle; nine great grandchildren: Taylor, Makenzie and Lane Isley; Brody, Braxton and Brecken Bruns; Morgan Haas and Kristen and Reese McRoberts.
The visitation will be from 3:00 - 6:00 P.M., Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral will be at 10:00, Monday, February 29 at the Rochelle United Methodist Church, 709 4th Ave., Rochelle with Pastor Rob Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. Memorials may be made in Shirley's memory to the Rochelle United Methodist Church or Serenity Hospice and Home.
