Shirley Tadd, 95, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in her home. Shirley was born June 24, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harry and Clara (Shay) Miller. She married Verlis Tadd on April 8, 1941 at the Evangelical Church in Ashton by Rev. Zagar. While together they traveled in many states and countries including Hawaii, France, Germany Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Canada. Shirley attended Ashton High School and Milwaukee Business School. She did secretarial work at Ashton School, Crest Foods and Swift & Co. She was a family caregiver and loved her family as well as good music.
Shirley was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was involved with the Literacy Council, Project VITAL of Sauk Valley Community College and donated a dictionary to every fourth grade student in the Ashton Elementary School. Also, she was very active in the Illinois General Federation of Women's Club, served as President of Ashton U. C. as well as serving on the Illinois Board of Directors, holding many offices in the 13th District including president where she was awarded a Leadership Award.
Shirley is survived by her son, Paul (Cheryl) Tadd of Naperville; two grandchildren: Peter Tadd and Keli (Mike) Sokacz; and five great grandchildren: Ben and Madelyn Tadd and Mikey, Jimmy and Lucas Sokacz.
The visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 803 Paddock Avenue, Ashton. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 with Pastor Jonathan Black officiating. Burial is at the Ashton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ashton Fire Department.
