Steven M. Stanfa, age 54 of Rochelle, passed away after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer, on Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born on Jan. 5, 1953 in Rockford, IL, the son of Peter S. and Jaroldean (Flood) Stanfa. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1971. Steve married Rita M. Pottenger on Sept. 17, 1977 in Rochelle. He had previously been employed by NIU in DeKalb, IL and also as a bus driver for RTHS. Steve was preceded in death by his father: Peter Stanfa on July 14, 2005.

Survivors include his wife Rita of Rochelle; mother: Jerry of Rochelle; 2 daughters: Shelby Stanfa of Rochelle and Kristin (David) Jones of Dixon; a sister: Gaye (Jim) McBride of Ashton, IL; and a grandson: Cole Jones and 5 nieces and nephews: Angie and Krystal Hudson, and
Mike, Scott and Jill McBride.

Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Steve Woita. Visitation will be at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Wed. Nov. 14th from 4 to 8 PM. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the family.
