Thomas L. Grimes Sr., 78, began his eternal life on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Thomas was born on December 8,1944 in Tampico, IL. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Etta Mae (Farmer) Grimes.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet Grimes of Rochelle.  He is also survived by his five brothers: Don, Gene, Steve, Ron and Doug Grimes; two sisters: Rita and Karen Grimes and two sons: Thomas L. Jr (Mary) Grimes of Dixon, IL and David A. (Victoria) Grimes of Dixon, KY. Tom has six grandchildren: Devin, Michael, Tara, Ben, Emily and Dreyton and  three great grandchildren.

Anybody who knew Tom could attest to the fact that he was a man of great faith, living everyday in a way that glorified his Lord and Savior. Tom's greatest desire was for everyone with whom he came in contact to know the story of the gospel of Jesus. Tom spent his early career as a carpenter prior to working in retail lumber. His most important job was the work he performed for his Lord at several different churches including Fifth Avenue Baptist, Creston Baptist, Hillcrest Baptist, General Baptist and Harvest Baptist Church. He played several key roles including song leader, Sunday school teacher, deacon and fill-in pastor as needed. He leaves behind a Christian family that is celebrating his passing to his eternal home.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle.  The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 27 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow the service at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle.
