Obituary

Truman W. Kester, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, December 16, 2022 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois surrounded by his loving family. Truman was born on January 20, 1936 in Friedheim, MO to William and Ada (Moeller) Kester. On March 28, 1959, he married Diane L. Modloff of DeKalb, IL at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, MO.

Truman Served in the U.S. Army from 1958 - 1961, stationed in Germany, 1959 - 1960, with Diane. Following his time in the service, Truman worked at Swift - Eckrich in Rochelle and then later in St. Charles, IL for a total of 36 years, until his retirement in 1998.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle since 1962. He was also a member of the Rochelle Garden Club and he was responsible for renting the garden plots for over 20 years. Truman spent seven years coaching Rochelle Little League baseball.

After retiring, Truman enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, gardening, fishing and spending time in his "man cave" with his friends. He had a love and passion for cooking and photography. Truman was the ultimate handyman. There wasn't a project he wouldn't attempt or anything he wouldn't fix. Truman was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed his annual fishing trip to Michigan with his friend, Vic. He was a man of faith and devoted to his family.

Truman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Diane, of Rochelle; two sons: Brian (Nancy) Kester of Byron, IL, Darrin (Penny) Kester of Sterling, IL; daughter, Deanne (Doug) Mittlesteadt of Montgomery, TX; six grandchildren: Amanda (Clifford V) Bolt, Danny (Melanie) Kester, Steven (Shawna) Kester, Stephanie (Brett) Chappell, and Sarah and Erik Mittlesteadt; four great grandchildren: Aleena and Jameson Kester, and Clifford VI and Evangeline Bolt; his sister, Charlotte Davenport and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Truman was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

The visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M., Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle, IL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 20 at the funeral home with Pastor Gregory Hoffmann officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
