Verla M. Krug, beloved wife and mother, 81, of Ashton, passed away early Monday morning, March 12, 2012, at home. She was born September 27, 1930, in Reynolds Township, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Edith Miller Pickle. She graduated from Rochelle Township High School. She married the love of her life, Oliver J. "Toby" Krug Jr., on December 16, 1950. They had been married for 45 years at the time of his passing in 1995. They lived and farmed in the Ashton area all of their adult lives and raised four daughters: Pamela Krug of Mukwonago, WI; Debra Deets of Dixon; Kim (Terry) Smith of Dixon; and Doris (Rick) Kennay of Ashton, all who survive her. Verla will be remembered for the love and care she gave to her family and she will forever be remembered as "Nana" to her grandchildren: Andrea, Chris, Amy, Dave, Whitney, Edward, Kaleb, Aubrey, Lauren and Grace. She was preceded in death by her husband, by his parents, her parents, a brother, and sister. She was also preceded by a special aunt, Blanche Maley.
Verla devoted her life to her family. She always made sure Toby had a hot meal whether he was working in the field or the second shift at Del Monte. She would bring along "#1, # 2, # 3 and # 4" so they saw as much of their father as possible. She also assisted her daughter in the operation of Anchovy's in Dixon and was a bookkeeper for the Village of Ashton.
Visitation will be at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street, Rochelle, Thursday, March 15th, from 9 to 10:45 a.m., funeral service will be at 11:00 with Monsignor Tom Bales officiating. Private burial will be in Ashton Cemetery. Memorials to Ashton Rescue Squad and the Alzheimer's Association.
