Veston J. "Chic" Whitener, 70, of Rochelle, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015, at Swedish American Hospital. Chic was born February 5, 1945 in Batesville, Arkansas, the son of Arthur B. and Nadean (Pankey) Whitener. He served with the United States Army from April 1968 to November 1969, including a tour in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the Floyd J. Tilton, Post 3878. He married Linda Kinser on September 13, 1983 in Loveland, CO. Chic lived in Rochelle off and on since 1955, loving his acre, pond and gardens. He was a long time member of Hub City Cruisers Car Club. He retired from Del Monte in 2000. He loved to hunt and fish and just enjoyed the outdoors. Chic was seldom seen without his loyal canine companion.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; brother, Jerry (Judy) Whitener; two sisters: Sylvia (Mark) Whitener and Cindy (Ted) Jones; several nieces and nephews and special aunt, Lorene Babb.
A memorial visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 P.M., Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home with retired Pastor Jerry Whitener officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
