IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Victorine "Vicki"
M. Schlezes
September 2, 1926 – October 25, 2022
Rochelle
Victorine M. (Simon) Schlezes, 96, of Rochelle, Illinois, born in Lebanon, South Dakota September 2, 1926 and formerly living in Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
One of 13 children, Vicki lived a very simple but rich life, from horseback riding, to sports activities, to prayer meetings; God and her family's needs always came first. She grew up on a farm in Lebanon, South Dakota, moved to Sioux City, Iowa during WWII, and worked at Albertsons and Bell Telephone. It was there that she met the love of her life, Frank G. Schlezes, and had 58 years of marriage together (1948). The couple traveled to Egypt, Jordan, Greece, and several pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. They moved to Rochelle, Illinois in 1969 where she became active in the Catholic Church and the head of the DeKalb Deanery teaching ministry of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. She also organized three nationally advertised Catholic conferences. She was also known to care for terminally ill patients in her family and the community. Her confident desire has been for people to know how much Jesus loves them.
Victorine was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Schlezes on December 26, 2006; her parents, Mathias and Grace (Clark) Simon, eleven brothers and sisters: Lavicia Vikre, Sylvester Simon, Edward Simon, Lucille Kuhns, Sylvia Bergeson, Gerald Simon, Edith Baus, Joyce Benck, Althea Simon, Baby Girl Simon, and Baby Boy Simon.
She is survived by their two children: Judith Faaborg of Rochelle, Illinois and Kenneth (Margaret) Schlezes of Wilmington, Delaware; five grandchildren: Jason Faaborg of Old Town, Idaho, Jodine (Mark) Switalski of Harrison Township, Michigan, Andrea (Jon) Grubb of Long Island, New York, Kyle Schlezes of Milton, Delaware, Kimberly Schlezes of Wilmington, Delaware and eight great grandchildren: Grace Debbrecht, Dane Debbrecht, Ryan Grubb, Logan Grubb, Brendan Grubb, Molly Grubb, Roman Schlezes, and Cecilia Schlezes; one brother, Royce Simon of Lebanon, South Dakota, and several nieces and nephews remain.
