Violet M. Akey, 98 of Rochelle, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at Rochelle Community
Hospital. She was born on Oct. 8, 1913 in Rochelle to LeRoy J. and Elizabeth (Strang) Hannon.
Violet married the love of her life, Norman L. Akey on Oct. 29, 1939 in Chicago, and he preceded her on April 2, 2000. She was also preceded by 2 brothers: LeRoy Clayton Hannon and Howard Larry Hannon and sister: Phyllis Cherie. Vi had previously been employed by Harry's Sandwich Shop and Hohenadel Printing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church
for over 60 years. Vi was a Cub Scout Den Mother of Pack 312 for many years and she was always proud of the accomplishments "Her Scouts" went on to achieve.
Survivors include 3 sons: James (Liudmila) Akey of Oxford, MS, Donald (Carrie) Akey of Memphis, TN and William (Gail) Akey of Germantown, TN; 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Paul)
Charboneau, Jason (Amy) Akey, Jennifer (Brent) Graves and Brian (Cindy) Akey; as well as 9 great grandchildren with 2 on the way.
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, with Rev. James Tilley
on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 8th from 4 to 7 PM . Burial at Trinity Memory Gardens. Memorials to First
Presbyterian Church, or Hub City Senior Citizens.
