Virginia Irene Cole, 88, died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. Margaret's Health System in Spring Valley, IL.

Irene was born March 7, 1925 in Parma, Missouri to William Cleveland and Emma Ellen (Tester) Rose. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rochelle. Irene served in the United States Army as a surgical technician during World War II. While in the service, she met and married Earlom J. Cole on November 30, 1945 in Clinton, Iowa. Irene lived many years in Greenfield, IL, then in Oakwood, IL, Paxton, IL, Scarboro, IL, Rochelle, IL, Stillman Valley, IL for 42 years, Oregon, IL and La Salle, IL.

Irene worked as a nurse's aid for many years and also worked for Caron International in Rochelle in the Hand Knit Department and in the Payroll Department. At age 60, she started her own business in Stillman Valley, IL called Renee's Upholstery.

Irene loved to have her grandchildren surround her at all times. She also loved growing and harvesting fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers. She was an excellent seamstress, creating many of her own clothes and clothes for her children. Irene also painted and decorated her home creating her own flower arrangements, sewing her own bedspreads, draperies and upholstering her furniture. She enjoyed decorating cakes, knitting, crocheting and cooking.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Earlom, on May 24, 2013, two sons: George N. Cole and Earlom Cole, Jr., her daughter, Emma, granddaughter, Ernestine Cole, son-in-law, Lester D. Perkins, 12 siblings and her mother and father.

Irene is survived by three sons: William Cole of Round Lake Beach, IL, Jeffery (Kathy) Cole of Lake Villa, IL, Tim (Shelly) Cole of Florence, CO; two daughters: Toni Perkins of Rochelle and Tami Cole of Chicago; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 810 Woolf Ct., Rochelle with the Pastor Doug Cowan officiating. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 10 - 10:45 prior to the funeral at the church.

Burial is at the Lawnridge Cemetery with Military Services provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard. Memorial to the First Baptist Church.
