Virginia M. Stangley, 93, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. Virginia was born February 27, 1921 in Louisville, IL to Alpha and Lula (Jenkins) Bennett. She married Norman Stangley on August 16, 1941 in Rochelle. She worked as a secretary at the Rochelle United Methodist Church for many years. Preceding her in death is her husband, Norman, on February 11, 1996, her daughter, Judith Stangley, four brothers: Murel, Garnet, Alphie and Glenn Bennett and five sisters: Electa Haase, Opal Burg, Lenora Reynolds, Maxine Moore and Veda Leifheit.
She is survived by her special nephew, Dr. Gary Burg of Chicago, special niece, Patricia Marinelli of Springfield, IL, special great-nephew, Kevin Courtwright, one brother: Dale (Barbara) Bennett of Havana, AR and many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M. prior to the funeral. Burial will follow the service at Lawnridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home.
