Rochelle

Wayne V. Friestad, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Franklin Grove Nursing & Rehab in Franklin Grove, Illinois. Wayne was born on January 17, 1928 to Vernon G. and Ella (Hayenga Musselman) Friestad in Rochelle. He was a 1946 Rochelle Township High School graduate. In 1951, Wayne was honorably discharged after proudly serving with the United States Marines. Wayne married Carol June Furman on July 2, 1950 in Rochelle.
Wayne worked as a mechanic for Sawicki Motor Company and Varvel's before becoming a self-employed mechanic. Later on, he worked for Moore's Hardware. Wayne was active in the community, Little League baseball coach, grade school basketball referee, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and sang in their choir. He enjoyed bowling and golf.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carol; son, David (Kate) Friestad of Rochelle; daughter-in-law, Debra Friestad of Plano, TX; six grandchildren: Katie (Nate) Alonge of Eau Claire, WI, Ryan Friestad, Addison Friestad both of Rochelle, Jay Michael Friestad of Plano, TX, Melissa (Brandon) Porath of Katy, TX, Brent Harrolle of Flower Mound, TX; seven great grandchildren: Mia and Archer Alonge, Brandon, Austin, Isaac and Julia Porath and Daniel Harrolle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jay, on November 16, 2019; brother, Al Musselman Jr. and sister, Maxine (Henry) McDermott.

There will be a private family only funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Gregory Hoffmann officiating. Burial will follow the service at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle with military honors provided by the United States Marines. Memorials may be made in Wayne's memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
