Wayne J. Reed, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in Rochelle. Wayne was born September 28, 1931 to Orville C. and Luella (Reitz) Reed in Rochelle, IL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd and 101st Airborne. On February 4, 1954, he married Mary Masters. He later married Sharon Melton in 1981. Wayne was a former member of the Rochelle Lions Club. His first passion was farming but he was also a real estate broker. He owned and operated Reed Real Estate. He retired from both in 2008. He loved driving around in his truck, cruising the countryside and frequenting the local coffee shops.

Wayne is predeceased by his parents, second wife, Sharon Reed, and his sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Carroll Vanderpool.

Survivors include his three daughters: Mary Ellen (Tom Gomez) Kenney of Rochelle, Kathy Hill of DeKalb and Debbie Fay of Lead, SD; brother, Melvin (Alice) Reed of Rochelle, his daughters' mother, Mary (Floyd) Brandt; five grandchildren: Jamie (Tom Shaw) Kenney, Steve Hill, Amy (Tyler) Swinson, David Shrader and Alexandra Fay and four great-grandchildren: Kyle Shrader, Caden Shaw, Colton Shaw and Conner Shaw.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Pastor Jack Briggs officiating. The visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M., Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle.
