Ashton
Wayne E. Wetzel, 88, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 in Franklin Grove, IL following a short illness. Wayne was born July 24, 1927 to Joe W. and Edna (Thomas) Wetzel in Ashton, Illinois. He proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he devoted the rest of his life to farming in the Ashton area. On December 1, 1973, he married Carolyn Mathews in Monroe Center, IL. Wayne was a member of the Ashton Methodist Church, life time member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, JoAnn Menz and one brother, Rae Allan Wetzel.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; five stepchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren and 22 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Davis; two brothers: Don and Robert (Mary) Wetzel and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. Another visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M., Monday prior to the funeral. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 7 at the Ashton Methodist Church, 906 Richardson Ave., Ashton with Pastor Sang Hun Han officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Ashton Cemetery with military honors provided by the eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
