William “Bill” Gapski, 68, of Streator, Illinois, passed away on January 20, 2026 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Illinois

Born on December 14, 1957 in Spring Valley, Illinois, Bill was the beloved son of the late Sandra Thompson and William Gapski. He was a devoted father and grandfather whose life was defined by hard work, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Bill spent his years eagle watching, hunting, fishing, and taking on many different jobs throughout his life. He was known for his love of eagles, his stubborn spirit, and his strength. Above all, he cherished his dog, Jackie, who brought him great comfort and companionship.

He is survived by his three children: William “Bill” (Lisa) Gapski, Jr of Rochelle, IL; Marie Gapski of Ottawa, IL; and Lena (Justin) Harris of Star City, AR. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Aaron (Jessica), Adriana (Arturo), Jake (Lily), Dylan (Brooke), Nevaeh, Noah, Maddi, Mia, and Corbin, as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his brother, Ron, along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Debra, and his great-grandson, Atticus.

In accordance with Bill’s wishes, cremation will take place along with a celebration of life gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed and may be made to the family.
