Obituary

Winiford "Windy" Louise Turner, age 89, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Serenity Home in Oregon with her family at her side. She was born on August 14, 1936 in Corning, Arkansas, the daughter of Daniel and Audrey (Mendenhall) Clement. Prior to retiring, Windy worked for many years as a waitress. She had an abundance of love. Windy loved her family, friends, hugs and above all, God. She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepson, Kelly Hattan; son-in-law, Joel Pyle, and great-grandson, Jacob Arnold.

Born during the Great Depression, and the second-oldest of 7 children, it was a time of great hardship, self-reliance, and resilience. Windy grew up in a world that was different from the world now. She grew up in an era of dirt floors, outdoor plumbing, no electricity, and a radio for entertainment. Her family would move from place to place to find work, apple picking being one she noted. Her childhood made her who she was.

Windy truly never met a stranger. With a kind word always ready, she had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen and special. When she spoke with someone, she made them feel like the only person in the room. When she offered a hug, it came with her full attention. Those embraces were more than simple gestures; they were moments of genuine love and comfort that will not be forgotten.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Hair and nail appointments were part of her regular routine. Her signature purple nails with sparkles became a detail many will fondly remember.

Her love for God, her church, and serving others was unwavering. She especially cherished her time serving at Vacation Bible School, where she found endless joy in the children. She loved being silly with them, giggling, and sharing the love of Jesus in ways that left a lasting impression.

As the matriarch of her family, her influence will continue to be felt for generations. She leaves behind countless people who loved her. Those who will always remember her hugs, her kindness, her laughter, and her ability to make everyone feel special.

Survived by her significant other, Robert “Bob” Hattan of Somonauk; 4 daughters: Debbie Ellington of Charleston, IL, Sherri Pyle of Somonauk, Kim (Tim) Dougherty of Rochelle, and Karla (Gary) Barr of Plano, IL; brother, Terry (Vicki) Clement of Martinsville, IL; sister, Edie (Alvin) Finley of Paris, IL; sister-in-law, Anna Lee Robertson; brother-in-law, Lloyd Ikemire; 4 step children: Robert (Cathy) Hattan, David (Marilyn) Hattan, Robyn (Tim) Popplewell, and Mitchell (Rachael) Hattan; step daughter-in-law, Lori Hattan

7 grandchildren: Tera (Chad) Arnold, Courtney (David) Jones, Curtis Helgren, Amber (Jason) Matile, Nikki (Greg) Molitor, Megan (Adam) Martin, and Aaron Barr; step grandchildren: Christopher, Robbie and Tara Hattan, Katherine (Ryan) Carlson, Jacob (Kenda) Dougherty, Austin and Ashley Popplewell, Caden, Kami and Calla Hattan; 14 great grandchildren, and a bonus care-giving, honorary grandchild, Ellie Brady.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:50 A.M. at Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th ST., Rochelle.

Funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the Unger Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Angelo Bonaquisti officiating.
