Zachary William Capes, 24, of Rochelle, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, in Rochelle. He was born on December 27, 2001, in Dixon, Illinois, the son of Clint and Melissa (Hurst) Capes.

Zack loved his job with Frankfother Trucking, driving his truck, fishing, and playing video games, especially when he was beating his cousin, Devin at MLB. A late night drive and star gazing with Sarah was a favorite of his. He was an avid Vikings fan. He was the first Capes boy to learn to swim making Grandma Nancy so proud. Above all, Zack cherished spending time with his family, especially being Uncle Shrek to his nieces and nephews. Although he was known to hide in the back of the room, he somehow always managed to be the life of the party. He loved making people laugh and had a way of bringing joy to those around him. Zack was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, always putting others before himself. His sense of humor, generous heart, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Zack is survived by his parents, Clint and Melissa Capes of Rochelle; his fiancée, Sarah Does of Rochelle; his sister, Dani Hurst of Madison, Wisconsin; his goddaughter, Oakleigh Moses of Rochelle; his grandfathers: Duane Capes of Rochelle, Bill Hurst of Creston, Illinois, and Brian Giddings of Sycamore, Illinois; aunts and uncles: Chad (Ashley) Capes, Colby (Maggie Schutz) Capes, Mike Hurst, Mandy (James) Mason and Matt Hurst, Dalton (Kyra) Hurst and Nikki Hurst; nieces: Cecily and Maddie DeLancey, as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers: Nancy Capes, Cathy Giddings and Sam Hurst and several great aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home with Dan Sergeant officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the family.
